On November 28 with a breakfast we celebrate the first sunday of Advent in the church “Cristo Rey” of Fernando de la Mora we start the celebrations of the coming to the world of our Lord Jesus on Christmas Eve.
We proposed us to hold this breakfast as brothers and sisters of the same faith and hope, taking present the following objectives:
a) Valorizing this time of preparation and expectation that brings the liturgical calendar of the Christian Church at the worldwide.
b) Know the triple meaning of Advent in the believer’s life: The Advent, as expected to the first coming of Christ; Advent, as await the coming of Jesus in our hearts; and Advent, as waiting the second coming of Christ.
c) Motivate us for receiving the birth of Jesus, the greatest gift of God to all mankind.
d) Use this time to make known the Good News of salvation in Jesus Christ to the sinner.
e) Encourage each other to persevere in the hope of salvation that we have received from Christ by faith in Him
The Christian Church at the worldwide has a liturgical calendar which outlines the differents times of the liturgical year. Advent, in this calendar, corresponds to the beginning of the ecclesiastical year and the four Sundays preceding a major holiday celebrated by Christians: The Nativity of our Lord Jesus Christ. Advent means “coming” and is the time to repentance and preparation for the various comings of our Lord Jesus, He came as a baby to be our Redeemer, He still coming in His messengers who teach and instruct the faithful, being He the Word, Himself is in the means of grace, the Word preached and taught, in Baptism and the Lord’s Supper, and He will also come once again at the end of all time. So we need to be prepared for His second coming, when in power and glory, He will come to look for all the faithful. Each Sunday of Advent prepare us for these events. One of the most consistent interpretation is as follows: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life” (John 3:16).
